A co-signer is someone who signs the loan with you and is legally responsible if you don't pay. Lenders often ask for a co-signer if you're building credit, have a limited credit history, or lower income. The co-signer's stronger credit can help you qualify and may get you a better interest rate.

The catch: the co-signer is on the hook. If you miss a payment, it damages both your credit and theirs. So choose someone you trust and have a clear conversation about expectations.

Co-signers are common-parents often co-sign for young buyers, or spouses for income verification. Bareford GMC's Finance Department works with co-signers regularly and will explain the commitment clearly.

If you're considering a co-signer or want to explore whether you need one, call (804) 445-2810. Our finance team can review your application and let you know what options are available. You can also visit us at 603 Church Lane, Tappahannock, VA to discuss it in person.
